ARE Animal Rescue recently received a call from an area veterinary hospital asking if we could take an orphaned kitten that had been brought in for treatment. We were told her injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle and though she didn’t have any broken bones, she couldn’t use her back legs. How could we say “no”?
Hailey is a silver tabby girl estimated to be 4 months old. She’s a sweetheart who gets around using her front legs to pull her back end. Due to her condition, she’s also incontinent so she needs to wear a diaper. Unlike some cats who are paralyzed, Hailey has feeling in her legs and tail and is able to minimally move them.
Upon consulting with a veterinarian, we learned that there’s a chance the nerves in her back portion may regenerate with proper treatment which would give her the ability to one day walk again on all fours. This treatment includes acupuncture to stimulate the nerves and physical therapy to strengthen her muscles. The best time to start this treatment is now while she’s young and still growing and developing.
Can you help us give Hailey a fighting chance to walk, run and climb by donating to our Angels Healing Angels Special Medical Fund? Any amount is greatly appreciated. We use all donations to the fund exclusively for special medical cases. To donate, please click here. For more information, contact us at (951) 708-1280 or info@arerescue.org.
