ARE Animal Rescue recently received a call from an area veterinary hospital asking if we could take an orphaned kitten that had been brought in for treatment. We were told her injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle and though she didn’t have any broken bones, she couldn’t use her back legs. How could we say “no”?

Our boy George is another cat who needs a leg amputation. He has a fracture of his left rear femur that’s so severe it cannot be repaired...

Adorable Maisy is a special girl. While her 3 brothers are perfectly normal kittens and have been adopted, Maisy was born with a major congenital defect causing her back half to be crippled. Upon seeing her x-rays, the veterinarian was amazed she was alive. Her spine is severely curved, her tail is at a 90-degree angle to her body, and her legs are deformed and immobile...

Pollyanna was a 5-week-old kitten when she was brought to us at the city of Banning Animal Shelter by an animal control officer. She was found lying on the side of the road. The back half of her tiny body was paralyzed and she had open wounds on her back end that were covered with maggots...

At just 6 months old, adorable Templeton has endured more trauma than any kitten should ever suffer. According to Riverside County Dept. of Animal Services from where we rescued Templeton when she was 3 months old, this innocent little girl had suffered a hard kick or blow with an object to her face. The number of fractures in her skull shocked veterinarians...

Sweet sisters Melody and Harmony came to ARE Animal Rescue when three weeks old in December 2021, along with their abandoned mom and two brothers. All were sick with upper respiratory infection and infected eyes. While their mom and brothers recovered in foster care and were adopted, these girls drew the short straw. Their right eyeballs were bulging and eye sockets were bloody and heavily crusted over, too far gone to be saved by the time we received them...

Big fluffy boy Buddy came to ARE Animal Rescue from a Riverside County Dept. of Animal Services shelter in early 2022.  He was just eight months old at the time and already had what was determined to be an old break in his right front leg.  When and how it happened is anyone’s guess...
